Protect Disability Rights & Section 504 by Taking Action Today

Mamas, our voices are needed! Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities by orgs. receiving federal funding > hospitals, schools, etc. is being challenged by 17 states. If the protections this law upholds ends, we’ll go back to a time when disabled Americans had NO legal rights. I shared this on Instagram but wanted to uplift it on the blog as well. It’s THAT urgent.

And because I know our time is limited, I broke it down into one critical action step which is contacting your State Attorney General Office and asking them to pull out of this suit Texas vs. Becerra. If you live in one of the 17 states (Texas, Alabama, West Virgina, etc., see graphic below), contact your State Attorney General, and demand that they withdraw from the suit. If you do not live in one of these states, you can still call and urge them to protect Section 504 and the rights of our disabled community! Here is the full list of State Attorney Generals in the U.S. provided by Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), founded in 1979; they are “a leading national civil rights law & policy center directed by individuals with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities.”

And Mamas, I also suggest you head over to DREDF’s in depth blog post about this issue, which provides a script to email your State Attorney General, and additional resources such as an overview of the lawsuit, a video entitled, The Power of 504 (available in both English and Spanish on the DREDF YouTube channel) and more.

If EVER there were a time to Advocate like A Mother it is NOW! The rights of our children & the disability community as a whole are on the line!
