Our First Moms & Kids Like Us Meet Up
Last month, Sat., Sept. 28, we came together in community for our first Moms & Kids Like Us Meet Up 🛝 , and it was amazing! ❤️The beauty of creating this space where neurodiversity is affirmed and celebrated… a space where we can say to another Mom, I see you, and know she understands! I am deeply grateful to ALL the lovely parents & kids who came into the space! I prayed that we would all have a wonderful time & God made it so!
Creating our own safe spaces where we can connect in community matters. Because the world has many ways of shutting us out, often making our children feel less than because they swim, speak differently (or not at all), live with anxiety, or have physical and sensory differences.
Last week I took Nai to a playground and she started to stim (verbally), the stares from people there saddened me. It’s hard to move through a world that doesn’t celebrate differences… let’s be honest, it leads to ongoing grief.
AND — it’s WHY coming together in community matters so much. Because there are so many ways that the world tries to shame our kids and us. Rooting in community helps us resist the lies of abelism that neurodiversity and disability are abnormal. Our differences are our strengths.
